Maybe nothing to do with your problem but I just had my aux belt and tensioner replaced and my engine bay has gone quieter, I was thinking a kind of bearing sound originally. My tensioner had a back powder all over it so something had worn. Worth a look at as there are a lot of reports of them failing earlier than expected.

As said above, check swirl flaps motor has not become disconnected from the control arm. Then it will keep driving itself against the stops to calibrate itself.
