Faulty Horn
Hi, i have a 2007 S80 2.5awd. A couple of months ago i was driving and the horn began to sound, the only way i could stop it was to hit the steering wheel. This kept on happening for about 35 mins until completely stopped. However the horn does not work at all now. I have just checked the fuse and it is fine. Has anyone got an idea of what the fault is. I need this rectifying asap as the MOT is due in 3 weeks. Thanks

Sounds like a problem with the switch contacts or the clock spring unit that connects the controls on the wheel to the vehicle.
In theory, you could fit an auxilliary horn switch - plenty of cars used to have a switch on the end of the indicator stalk rather than on the wheel.

In some kind of cruel twist of fate (because I replied to this thread), I too suffered from some random issues with the horn today! I'd parked the car out the front house and within a few minutes the horn started to sound but not continuously: more like morse code. I got in and gave the steering wheel a good thump but it make no difference. After a mad flick thru the manual, pulled fuse 29 under the bonnet and it was silent.
We'd had a lot of rain last night and there's a slight leak along the top of the windscreen and there was a damp patch in the passenger footwel today so I'm hoping it's not a sign of water getting into the CEM or other expensive bits. I'll give it a run with the heaters on tomorrow to dry things out and then try refitting the fuse. Hopefully it was just a one-off issue. Will also hook up VIDA to see if there's anything logged for it.
