Unless your prepared to throw big money at a daily then i don't think you would ever make mega money on one and byu the time its worth anything it will have starship miles on it unless you only do 2k a year,
Maybe a weekend toy might be a better sort of idea, something that you can enjoy when weather nice, Alot of stuff that was common as muck even 10 years ago is starting to get rare, remember a friend had a mk6 escort Rs2000 and although am not a ford fan i always quiet liked that shape, find a nice one today that isn't stupid money, I bought a peugeot 309gti must be knocking up 10 years ago for 360quid and ripped it to bits to use as a track toy, really beginning to wih i had just fixed it up and left it standard now as it would be worth 4x times what I paid for it now and they slowly seem to be following there 205gti sisters and starting to rise in value,

I suppose time scale and the value of money itself would also have an effect, for instance:My first car was a '59 Ford Consul bought for £38 and they're now pretty reasonable money now,so technically if I still had it I'd make money selling it,however how much would I have needed to spend on it in the last 50yrs or so to have kept it in a condition to make such money as they now do and now 50 or so years later what is the original £38 purchase price taking into account inflation etc.worth? So would I have actually made any money on it?

My 940 is worth more than I paid for it 2 years ago, the prices are slowly rising now.

Anything with green blood running through it is expensive to repair if you can't do it yourself. It's not a matter of the 'suspension' itself failing as that is rare but there are approx 600 parts involved in the operation of the suspension and if any one part goes it can leave the suspension u/s. Note how many Xantia's you see with the front end stuck in the air or bouncing up and down; or the rear suspension sat on the floor. Both are easy fixes if you know what you're doing - and the scrapyard if you don't.
The newest 'green blood' Citroen is 16 years old with no parts available from Citroen, and independants and enthusiasts like myself hoarding any parts we can grab hold of. The C6 is a different animal, not a drop of green blood in it but electronics galore. Find a decent one, have the knowledge to look after it yourself and a considerable amount of luck finding the parts, and you have an executive car that stands out from the crowd - buy a rag that hasn't been looked after and it's a money pit. |

Xantia - who mentioned that ? Jon. N.B crazy thing is you can buy a really good daily driver for less than the cost of a decent bicycle. Last edited by Prufrock; Dec 17th, 2017 at 11:44. Reason: addition (N.B) |

I would say any rear-wheel drive Volvo estate. 2 years ago when I bought mine, I was finding immaculate 245's for about £3000, now I've seen them go over £12,000.

And depends hugely on wether you can do the repairs yourself.
As for the Xantia your OP states this is not your list and add your own, yet I wouldn't add Xantia to the list as it needs specialist knowledge which the vast majority don't have. Even within Citroen circles it's only certain models of the Xantia and XM which are holding there own, never mind increasing. |
