Having said at post 15 that I always fill up to the top, I've just been to the petrol station and put in less than a full tank. I went to pick up some sound equipment for the wife's choir's concert at the weekend which was 180 mile driving, deal is they'll pay for the petrol so 180 miles at 30 mpg is 6 gallons, 6 gallons is 27 litres so that's what I put in, one receipt for the choir treasurer to reimburse me.

I put £30 in when the fuel light comes on, as above, I don't see the point in wasting fuel carrying extra weight, I average around 22mpg.

AS with claymore above - now that I'm doing a lot less mileage I tend to put £30 worth or thereabouts and only putting fuel in when it drops to the quarter full mark - averaging around 26mpg around the town.

Just feel uncomfortable when less than 1/4 full. Just in case of one of those middle-of-the-night "how soon can you get here?" calls....always filled. But at the cheapest place at the time...

I fill it up, run to nearly empty and fill up again, as it is an easy way to keep a check on mpg. Its an older car and a drop in mpg is an indicator something is up.

I usually fill up when I get near empty, I never brim it though I don't use the car during the work week but I don't see the point of only putting a tenner in as at 20mpg it won't last long. If I'm going any distance I'll fill up leaving home as I have to drive past our local shell outlet.
