Default Brembo s60r 300mm upgrade.. what carriers ?

hello all.

Im in the middle of getting ready for a project of fitting 330mm discs all round on my 850R 1996 with the Brembo brakes (4 pot) from a S60R.

Does anyone know where I can get the carriers for the front brake calipers?

I cant seem to find them anywhere :-(

Anyone offer any advice ??

Cheers

Dave

They're a massive pita to fit to an 850/P1 X70.

Think custom is your only way to go I'm afraid

I'm under the distinct impression that they won't fit by others who've tried. The brackets end up being so flimsy that the set up proves dangerous.

You can use the discs with other calipers - APs for example.

The P2 stuff doesn't fit on P1 - except for some of the XC90 stuff on the rears.

*cough* ahem......

had these stress tested to a safety factor of over 4 using Solidworks and some other software. Energy applied over 24000 newtons, and each caliper can only exert max 5000 newtons clamping force.

this is the 3d printed prototype pictured

working out to be around £275 a pair, made from 7075-T6 alloy, super exclusive numbers as im only making 7 pairs.

this mod does require REMOVING the steering stopper from the knuckle, which DOES NOT WEAKEN the knuckle in any way, but we all know the steering stopper is useless anyway as our tyres rub the chassis leg!

PM me if youd like a pair, only actually got 3 sets left to reserve as the others are paid for.

BTW, you need atleast 17" pegs to run these, no other volvo 17" will clear them. 18" pegs work well too

Hello ! You are a life saver !! I'll take a pair...And I'll sell my Volan wheels. Will these then work with 330mm discs then? What the solution to the steering stops can I just add after market stops ?

I'm glad you've computer modelled them. But have you tested them under real & extreme driving conditions?

Several very experienced & exhaustive Volvo modders have tried & failed in the past to get this modification to work. If it did we'd all be doing it as the R brakes are fantastic with decent pads.

I hope you have cracked it - would be a nice solution - but hope neither yourself or one of your customers comes unstuck with brake failure because you've miscalculated.

Cheers, Morgan

I appreciate your support, 24000 newtons equated to roughly stopping a car (1.5 tonnes) from 60mph to a dead stop in around 6 feet* ( *give or take, cant remember exactly what the values were but not far off), and they survived with flying colours, id like to see anybody try and replicate such values in real day driving.

this isn't to first attempt, the adapter has sat in various positions around the knuckle to avoid removing any unnecessary material, ie keeping it as complete as Volvo intended. this is probably about attempt 6 for positioning, which has given best test results and longevity.

FWIW, if everyone had the attitude of " everyone else has tried and failed " then we'd still be living in a cave round a fire, Ive seen some truly shoddy and dangerous attempts at this adapter, including adding material to the cast knuckle by WELDING to add new mounts or using 2 WHEEL BEARING BOLTS as mounts. Both of which shouldn't even be considered. This is the only way they'll fit safely. Please don't tar this development with such a brush, as its not only been designed by Volvo fanatics, but by 2 graduated mechanical engineers, who've designed many-a such items in commercial use today, one of the guys has been employed to use solidworks to design extremely high pressure vessels for the pharmaceutical industry for nearly a decade, if anyone understands metal fatigue, its him.

yes buddy these take standard s60r 330mm discs. no alterations required. I personally don't use tight lock as ive got a Gripper LSD and it shouts at me if I go any other way but straight haha, and with the tyre hitting the leg before the rim hits the wishbone ive never deemed it necessary. Might be unorthodox but I was considering fitting a bump stop in my rack to do just that job but I haven't pursued that idea due to being manic busy.
