Help with Intercooler Hose 2.0 D4 VEA
Hi all, I've just changed the oil on my 2014 XC60 (2.0 D4 VEA) and noticed a bit of oil on the undertray, which seems to be dripping off a hose which I think is part of the intercooler.
The part number is 31370286, a search on google comes up as 'charge air hose' and 'intercooler hose pipe'. Can anyone help me identify where the oil is coming from, or where to look! Thanks, Dave |

Is it possible that the leak is not from that pipework but is just appearing there? These VEA diesels can develop significant oil leaks from the cam cover gasket and a camshaft end cap which then run down the back of the engine... Volvo found that mine has some weeping coming from both these places and quoted me Ł800 for repairs. I'm leaving it for now as it doesn't cause any obvious leakage underneath (yet) but I do get an oily smell through the vents after a long trip.

I was a bit worried about that, so had another look and thankfully there are no leaks further up the engine.
The oil appears to be seeping out at the top of this hose (with the metal collar), and I could nearly pull the hose off by hand. I think the hose needs tightening but it looks like it requires a special tool to get on/off? EDIT: I need a HENN clamp tool by the looks of it. Last edited by DaveXC; Sep 29th, 2020 at 14:57. Vea d4 - 2018. v60
Hey Mate,
I had the very same problem with this engine. I bought the car 2 weeks ago and today I saw the same oil leaks from the intercooler pipe. I have attached a photo too. There is 50000 km in the vehicle. The mechanic told me that this can be a turbo charger failure, but it can be also a worned out sealing. The sealing here comes together with the pipe, no way to replace only the sealing. This oil appeared after 2000 km, I did not have to fill more oil into the engine (haven't seen any low oil lvl warning, it was always on full). I think the turbo is ok, this oil quantity can be tolerated in the turbo-intercooler system. Also I haven't experienced any issue with the boost or noise or blue smoke about the turbo failure. Do you have any more information about that? Thanks! Last edited by Mark21; Feb 22nd, 2022 at 10:31. |
