Bars on my XC90 sit very close to the sill, so are not in the way getting in or out, and make it really easy for the kids to climb in and out too...

the "after" pic is not visible Mike. Also, been at HR Owen in Colindale this weekend to check about the items I want added (see my previous post).

Have been quoted 350 plus 100 for the running boards.

How would I go about sourcing the boards cheaper? would scrap\salvage dealers have those?

Pics visible fine from here....

That price sounds a bit on the high side - from memory, the bars are £400 give or take a couple of £, and 1/2hr labour is plenty to fit...

I got mine from Ebay, paid £155, BUT got £80 refunded as there was a deep scratch on one that wasn't accurately described or visible in the photo. Will have to get it re powder coated at some stage though..

This is the pic from Ebay of the bars I bought, as you can see, no sign of a scrape, but still more than happy with them for the price

Thanks Mike. Still can't get the link to work, never mind.

I've got no problems getting the bars 2nd hand or salvaged. After all, they are there to be stepped on...

Will make some calls this week and try to find a pair. If not I'll get back to the dealer and ask for a discount.

Interesting suggestion. Do you pay tax or custom duty on these? Has anyone imported car parts from the US before?

Unless it's worth less than £16 you can expect pay duty. Occasionally you don't pay anything, but in my experience a big object will attract the attention of customs. You also will have to pay the delivery companies collection charge, usually about £8 on top of the duty.

I bought £75 worth of sheet hand made glass for a restoration project and the duty and duty collection fee cost about £130 on top of the cost of the glass.

They seem to go on the insurance value becuase a friend in America returned some stuff I'd lent her and wrote quite a high value on the parcel insurance label, (the cost to replace new) and I got charged duty on stuff I'd owned for quite a while and had already paid purchase tax on of course. I got the tax back but not the delivery companies collection fee. So be very wary and make sure you know what to expect.
