Hello Mike,
I've just had a quick trawl roud the VADIS disc and a thin film Antenna Module is under the head-lining at the rear of the car along with the AM/FM receiver. There are a number of modules this connects to including potentially the various GPS and GSM options. The following text is from the explanation: "The base unit of the antenna module (ATM) (16/110) has the task of receiving and converting AM and FM signals. The antenna signals are converted to sound signals which are transmitted digitally to the audio control module (AUD) (16/105) via the MOST network. The antenna module (ATM) (16/110) receives information from the infotainment module (ICM) (16/1) about which frequency / radio station and which waveband the listener wishes to listen to. The antenna module (ATM) does not transmit sound signals to the audio module (AUD) if the radio station signal is not strong enough. The antenna module (ATM) is in MUTE mode when searching frequencies. The antenna module (ATM) stores the most recently used frequency for a waveband. When changing from one frequency to another the control module will use the stored frequency." There is a picture - but I can't transfer it onto here. If you have access to a VADIS disc - search on the word Radio. I can't find out what the MOST network is yet - but I don't think it's quite as simple as the old aerial jack we're used to - this looks like a thoroughly modern comms network that doesn't have a wire dedicated for radio signal. Depending on your reason for wanting to know - I'd be careful about disconnecting anything here as there is a whole raft of modules that rely on the MOST network for software updates/uploading etc. They all talk to each other - so what you set on the dash isn't neccessarily communicated to the receiver - it looks like this goes via the control module aswell. Good luck - if you got any more questions I'll try and dig the info out. VADIS disc - best 5 quid I've spent on a Volvo..... Cheers Ian. |

Most
Media Oriented Systems Transport or Transfer. Basically it is a digital data bus system, most of it (excuse the pun) relying on light transfer down fibre optics.
Paul.
