Clocking my car
That's right, I need a few tips on how to become a dodgy second hand car dealer. Seriosuly though, I want to install a kmh instrument cluster in my car as I am importing it to Belgium and I want the odometer to show the correct milage. How do I change this, does anybody know? Also, to replace the headlights to be correct, do I need to replace just the glass or do I need to replace the reflector too? Anybody knows?

RE: Clocking my car
You should be able to replace the glass, it is held in place by four clips top and bottom (eight in all). You should however find that the light bulbs can be replaced in the lhd position for the headlights only.
All the best, Peter. |

I'm not sure exactly how 700 series instrument clusters work, but you should be able to unscrew the whole board from the glass front, then deftly use a screwdriver to click the numbers over.
I don't remember the exact ratio of miles to KM, is it about 1.603? Andy |

Near enough Andy. It is actually 1.609, but what's a few thousandths between friends.

RE: Clocking my car
George,
To set the mileage wheels in the speedo, remove the instrument from the cluster and on top of the wheels there is a spindle carrying the drive gears. You have to push this spindle to the left to clear it from it`s right support. You can then lift the spindle slightly to disengage the gear teeth from the counter wheels then you can set wheels to the desired figure. It`s a bit fiddly, practice on your old one first! Colin. |
