Page 9 shows that they are suppose to be flared. http://volvo1800pictures.com/documen...d_steering.pdf Bit of a dilema now whether I strengthen it or leave as is, I'm going Bilsteins.

Also called Simon to order ned discs and the rest of the parts. I told my wife last night that I had to order the discs and more parts, I'm glad she has no idea how much Amazon parts cost.

Thsi shows it well also: http://123gt.blogspot.co.uk/2008_06_01_archive.html

Default Opinions please

Going to be painting the crossmember and I already have black paint so I could paint it black and match the rest of the suspension components which would look good or would the grey look better which means I order some grey paint?

mean't to text earlier about this actually, when you mentioned that they are grey originally- definately will look good against the gloss black wishbones, yellow shocks and black? springs!

what colour should the callipers and mudshields be? high temp laquer would work leaving them as they are?

Nick

I'd go with satin black. I know the grey is original, same on my 164, but it always looks like primer to me!

Thanks Nick, the springs will most likely be the blue ones.

I think (will check) the calipers are silver and shrouds are black. I'll order some paint today and get sent to your work. Ordered a new primer gun and hose, and a rivnut gun for the trim which is also being sent to your work. Say thanks to Irene or Robert for me.

Thanks John. I think the black would look better too but will go with the original grey I think.

I don't think I'd go satin any colour here. The glossier the better as far as keeping it clean. If you're not worried about the exact shade of grey there are some very tough tractor paints out there, Ferguson grey or there is a similar Ford one.

Some nice repairs here.

Thanks Derek. Yep going for a full gloss 2k polyurethane topcoat. Going to go for BS 676 from the chart: https://www.smlmarinepaints.co.uk/BS381C_colour_chart

I saw Phil Singer did a repair like that as well so will do something similar. Might have some 1/4 plate at the workshop so just need to check that the shock will extend through far enough.

That shade looks good. Interesting to see that the CVI x-member has a towing eye welded to it. Very useful.
