VolvoV50 Diesel
Hi all,
I am asking on behalf of a friend who is not computer literate. He has a Volvo V50 Diesel in for repair. I am afraid I have forgotten the year, although I think that it may be a 56 plate. The car will open ok, and when you put the key in the ignition lights will turn on, but the car will not start. the starter will not even turn. On the screen on the dash it says the car is immobilised and to read owners handbook. I have read the fault codes and came up with the following CEM-8F01 Hazard light switch faulty signal (RED fault) SWM-020A Steering wheel module Calibration fault (RED Fault) AUD-0021 Control module Internal fault (Yellow Fault) AUD-0025 Loudspeaker left front faulty signal (Yellow Fault) AUD-0027 Loudspeaker left rear faulty signal (Yellow Fault) AUD-0028 Loudspeaker right rear faulty signal (Yellow Fault) AUD-002C Loudspeaker right rear signal too low (Yellow Fault) DIM-0001 Mileage Manipulation (Yellow Fault) DIM-E003 Configuration fault software fault (Yellow Fault) CCM-0009 Fan motor passenger compartment temperature sensor blocked (Yellow Fault) CCM-DD14 Damper motor no communication (Yellow Fault) CCM-DD15 Damper motor temperature left no communication (Yellow Fault) CCM-DD16 Damper motor distribution no communication (Yellow Fault) CCM-DD32 Damper motor temperature right no communication (Yellow Fault) CCM-DD33 Damper motor defroster no communication (Yellow Fault) CCM-E010 Control module power supply too low (Yellow Fault) CEM-5A61 PTC heater signal too low (Yellow Fault) CEM-8C20 Rear fog lamp faultysignal (Yellow Fault) CEM-8F22 Wiper motor module (WMM) Voltage too low (Yellow Fault) CEM-8FB2 Rain Sensor module (RSM) faulty function (Yellow Fault) CEM-DE30 Communication with EPS control module signal missing (Yellow Fault) CEM-DE51 Communication with DIM control module signal missing (Yellow Fault) DDM-DD10 Communication with control module internal fault (Yellow Fault) DDM-E001 Control module communication internal fault (Yellow Fault) ICM-E003 Configuration fault software fault (Yellow Fault) PDM-E003 Configuration fault software fault (Yellow Fault) PSM-0008 M1, M2, M3, M4 or MC Ground (GND) short (Yellow Fault) SRS-0002 SRS warning lamp signal missing (Yellow Fault) SRS-0004 PAD lamp signal missing (Yellow Fault) SRS-0005 Battery power supply low voltage (Yellow Fault) SRS-009A Rear belt buckle signal missing (Yellow Fault) SRS-0128 CAN signal missing (Yellow Fault) SRS-0129 CAN signal missing (Yellow Fault) SRS-012A CAN signal missing (Yellow Fault) SRS-012B CAN signal configuration fault (Yellow Fault) SRS-012C CAN signal configuration fault (Yellow Fault) SRS-012D CAN signal signal missing (Yellow Fault) CEM-8A09 Low beam right faulty signal (Yellow Fault) CEM-8A11 Low beam left signal too low (Yellow Fault) CEM-8A12 Low beam left faulty signal (Yellow Fault) There is no engine control module fault and there does not seem to be a immobiliser fault either. This one has me stumped. Can anyone please shed some light. Thank you

Wow, thats some list...
I would start with checking the CEM as it seem common that it can create all sorts of phantom issues. CEM is located under glove compartment. Disconnect the battery, pull the CEM out (unplug all pins etc ) and check for corrosion, loose pins etc. Put it back, connect back the battery, reset the codes if possible - see what happens and what codes comes back.

Thank you for the reply. I read somewhere that the CEM is coded to the car. Do you know if this is true or not.
Regards Stuart

Volvo V50
Are you able to re code the CEM using VIDA and do you know how to go about it.
Regards Stuart

Not a clue. Possibly a dealer only job?

I know for sure people did manage to succesfuly clone the CEM - you just get the one from another car (has to be same model so p/n is important) and you can clone it in one of the companies that offer this service. It needs no coding then, just straight swap.
Not sure how to do it otherwise as other option trough dealership is to get new CEM and code it to car, but I have no clue if you can code used one using Vida. I would GUESS not but cant be sure. are you sure your CEM is gone? often its just corrosion on connectors or loose wires...

When you clone a CEM to a new CEM, the new CEM has the identical coding to the old CEM. So it HAS been effectively coded. After all, they have nothing more than a standard flash memory that holds data. Cloning is the same as copying files from one computer to another.

Think of it as the central computer on a network. When it fails, the entire network suffers and may not work It's the same on the Volvo: when the CEM fails, the chances are extremely high that the entire vehicle logs a multitude of problems. But they tend to be because the CEM has failled... Generally, CEM is a dealer only replacement due to the fact that it needs to be loaded with your vehicles configuration so that everything in your vehicle works properly. If the existing CEM is unreadable, then Volvo gets the data from the central Volvo database, which contains the last known configuration for your vehicle. Fit a CEM from another vehicle with the identical part number and it MIGHT be correct for your car. Or it might not. It all depends what the donor vehicle had fitted as options and accessories. Example: my CEM is programmed to enable the parking heater. I had it enabled, officially, and paid for it. Many identical CEMs with the identical part number are NOT programmed to enable the parking heater. So swapping out my CEM with a CEM with the identical part number may not bring identical functions... I may lose the parking heater... unless it is programmed properly for my car. And that is what the dealer does. The dealer has access to the vehicle config database and can pull your vehicle config and apply it to your car, even when the existing CEM has been so badly damaged that it is unreadable.
