Default Auto or Manual?

I'm undecided between two XC 90'S
Both vehicles look and sound great, 1 manual, 1 auto.
Manual is 2 years older but with 20k less miles.
This is my dilemna as the rest is purely aesthetic, but non volvo owners tell me buy manual.
What would you do?

i drive an 06 d5 auto xc90. its the most relaxing thing i've ever driven and when i drove a manual van last week i found it an effort. this was the first auto i had owned, and i wouldn't go back. i also bought my other car, an S60 T5 as an auto, despite having a manual previously in that same model after the relaxing auto drive.

i'd probably now only go back to a manual if i got a roadster or higher performance hot hatch thing.

That's my thoughts exactly on auto v manual now. Am only on my first auto but wouldn't go back unless I got a performance car. My S80 is a joy to drive.

Personally I'd always go for the manual but that's because I like to be in control on a country road . In the case of a big luxury offroader I'd probably go for the auto unless you plan to tow with it as you'll just wear out an auto towing with it.

Have you ever owned an auto before? If so did you enjoy it?

Hi PD

I had an Xc70 6 speed manual, for economy and it paid off, although the car was more suited to an auto box.

I then had an XC90 auto and really wished that I'd had auto on the 70.

Now I have an XC60 auto and wouldn't have manual again?

My mate has always driven manual until I let him drive my 60, and now he has just bought a new Focus auto.

Regards.

Theres a massive thread somewhere (can't post links on my phone) covering every arguement that can be made. I drive auto's due to a problem with my left ankle but even if it was fine, after driving an auto, I'd find it hard to find a reason to go back to a manual. With the modern radar guided cruise controls it's just so effortless to cover long distances. One thing to bear in mind though is the manual is as good as its gonna get, auto's will keep improving.

My girlfriend drives a S60 auto which i borrow sometimes, driving this car made me hanker for something for the first time in my life. Just love volvos now, pure comfort to me. I will be doing a little caravaning with my new car but not a lot, would that put the auto out of contention? I've been told the 06 d5 auto would handle lightweight towing no problem.

I have an S60 my2011 D5 geartronic auto and it tows really well.Have towed for many years with autos and never had any problems.I would never go back to manual box.I tow a Swift Caravan with mtlp of1430kgs so it is not 'lightweight' as far as caravans go.
