Default Aftermarket HIDs without error

Has anyone managed to fit any aftermarket HIDs without relays and without any errors please?

I've got a set of supposedly the best HIDs and their decoder but no joy.
HIDs http://www.theretrofitsource.com/hid...l#.U7QCT_ROW70.

They light up for nearly a second and then the car shuts them down.

I’ve also tried a set of HID’s Direct decoders but still the same problem.

Then used a relay harness with some 6Ohm 50w resistors.
The car shut down with the first set.
I got another new and improved version which semi-worked but I got an error message and I've had a light shut down still.
I’m not keen on using resistors either, drawing another 100watts unnecessary so.

Am I correct in saying the newer Volvo systems use low amperage, about 4A?
These Morimoto Elite ballasts need between 7-8A to fire so they can start up as fast as factory HID systems.

I know the rights and wrongs of HIDs, so its just the case of trying to make these or others work please.

Many thanks.

It's worth searching the forum, especially in the 00-07 V70 etc section. There are some long discussion threads in there regarding the technical issues of installing aftermarket HID's and getting them to work OK, e.g this one. Not sure whether the same applies to the '90' series but there was also an issue with carefull rerouting the earthing of the ballasts to prevent EM spike damage to the wiper motor control electronics.

I was thinking about buying and installing them once but in the end with all the tech and other issues, I didn't bother. The standard lights on the Phase 2 '70 series are not that bad and not significantly worse than some cars with OEM HID's that I have driven/being passenger in.

i don't know which option you chose but you need the canbus one. and if its not working then its faulty, get it replaced. i have used many HID kits on different cars without any problems. need to buy canbus HID kit. i like 4300k

regards

I fitted Volvo Bi zenon headlamps complete and only problem was that I had to wire a 10W lamp in the system to prevent error message about headlamp failure, this solved the problem.

Cheap 25-50W load resistors fitted across the supply to the ballasts will remove any possibility of errors.

My full beam HID kit doesn't need any resistors.
When I did the dipped beam HIDs, there was no error with the engine off but when the engine was running, I got a bulb failure warning.

£16 for a 4300k HID kit and £4.25 for 50W load resistors.

Don't get mugged by these canbus jobbies, it's just a resistor.

I'm not a fan of "after market" HIDs, dangerously blinding when installed in non HID headlights and illegal in the UK when they don't self level ...

P2 reflector headlamps don't scatter the beam like that.

And the whole legality is a shady area...

If you have wash/wipe, it MUST work
If you have self leveling or adjustable level, it MUST work
Beam pattern MUST be correct and not scattered
Colour must be white or yellow/white (blue/purple/red/green will fail MOT)

I've had my HIDs in for 2 years now with no MOT issues.

As per the thread, i know the dos and donts, so its just about getting them to work.

What Ohm did you use please?
Note i fitted 6Ohm 50w resistors that are normally used for this and the car still doesnt like it.

I've fitted some on Toyota, Audi and older volvos with no problems but this one is a right pain, with or with suitable Canbus decoders.

TRS and HIDs Direct have both said the newer Volvos are hard to solve. Mercs, Audi and BMW seem ok though??

These have the Canbus Decoders and i always go for 4.2-4.3k.
I researched for some decent ones and the TRS Morimoto are known to be the best with a 5 year warranty and they put them againt Philips.
Never the less they still dont work so none of that really matters
