Default 960 B230FT Estate 1991 Alternator, or perhaps not!

Replaced Alternator in December with a 100Amp German & Swedish V90098 Hella
remanufactured unit - I have no idea what original make this is....but it was unlike the unit on the car. I was faintly annoyed at the lack of terminal markings, but figured that
1. '123' referred to Battery (Red Lead)
2. Unmarked Spade Terminal led to warning lamp (Red)
3. Earth Tag Terminal to Alternator Body screw (Blue)

Checked continuity on all 3 - all OK

Last week on turning right - most idiot lights for come on - and I lose power steering for a moment (gulp).....Battery power drops and eventually it dies.

I figure it's the Alternator and G&S offer replacement - fitted now - but I have the same problems...

Help - What is this old scroat missing - aside from £114 that is

Regards

Jim

Ensure that all alternator leads are correctly fitted and that the +ve terminal connections on the battery are making effective contact. There is a lower current capacity red wire (or two) at the terminal which can corrode and make a very dodgy contact.

All the best, Peter.

Default 960 B230FT Estate 1991 Alternator

Thank You Peter

Prompt help as always!

Contacts all seem fine - I'll recheck this one of course....

Could this Hella rebuild be the 'wrong' alternator?

Regards

The Old Scroat

Default Contacts OK

Hello

Just cleaned everything in sight and rechecked continuity - all ok - but no charge and idiot lights flash on when I turn corners (and I lose power at steering for a few seconds)...

Wierd..... should I change to a Bosch alternator?

Thanks

Default Alternator...Power Steering??

Sorry to think out loud - but it helps me (probably bores everyone else)

Alternator must be doing something - else warning lights would be on all the time

No connection at all between Power Steering and Alternator - except the Main Pulley.....

now if some clown's broken a key - or it's otherwise slipping....load on power steering = main pulley slips more / alternator belt speed drops / idiot lights go on

This might be baloney (what is baloney anyway?) - but as soon as this Yorkshire Snowstorm lets up - Pauline and I will check....

Regards

Default Still a whiteout in Yorkshire

Still snowing like crazy here - but even if my slipping pulley turns out to be wrong - my depression lifts after reading

Default Main Drive Pulley 'Key'

Hello

Oh Yes!

It Slips - I'm sort of relieved - almost.....

anyone have any ideas on a 'temporary fix' - I need to use the 960 this week and though the suggested fixes are great - with my engineering skills I can't see me doing this inside a day...

Thanks

Smile Key OK - pulley ain't though

This gets wierd

The key on the Crank Sprocket was ok....

However the inner section of the 2 (should it be 3) piece pulley was slipping due to old age in the bonded rubber insert

Superglue is a temporary fix until I can fit a new pulley.....

This happens more than you would think. Watch out for the superglue giving way when it gets a bit hot.

All the best, Peter.
