Hi
I have just removed the intake manifold from my 2005 2.0D s40 So i can clean out all the crap that builds up. I am looking for the best way to clean the intake ports on the cylinder head AS I AM worried about the crap falling into the cylinders Also i was going to use carb cleaner any other tips on best methord or cleaning products would be of great help Thanks Mark |

I would suggest put the engine at Tdc with the cam pulley lined up with the timing hole, then all valves will be closed or very close to. Clean the ports and then blow out the deposits from the ports with an air line. If you don't have access to compressed air then you can get a can of compressed air from Maplin. A few deposits aren't going to harm the cylinders, but if using liquid cleaner be careful how much drops in. Decoking the inlet manifold and ports can make a noticeable difference and another good reason to block EGR.
