heater core
Hi, new volvo owner and also new to this site. Just wondering about changing a heater core in a 1990 740, are they the same as the earlier models? I have seen the bad news about changing them in the heating/airconditioning section of this site but they only mention up to year 1998. I have also seen pricing on aftermaket cores, but what a about genuine volvo core., reasonable? Thanks

I would suggest that you try the guys at IPD http://www.ipdusa.com . They are based in Portland Oregon and are extremely helpful guys. They do mail order and pretty fast delivery. I see that you are based in Vancouver and Oregon is only seperated from you by Washington state. I believe that USA/Canada models all had air-conditioning, which is bad news for replacing the heater cores (matrix). The core has longer tubing than the ordinary heater one so that the hoses can go through the bulkhead to the heater valve (vacuum operated) on the engine side of the bulkhead. For hints and tips on replacing try either the FAQs on this site, or the Brickboard. They are identical in the information they supply as they run in conjunction with each other.
All the best, Peter. |
