Default Exhaust Emissions

Hi

Right, Exhaust emmisions. I dont think my 740 2.3 will pass the emissions for the MOT. If you stand behind the exhaust, it nearly blows you over!

So what needs doing? does it need a new exhaust system or just the engine tuning?

I did take it into the garage the other week for the exhaust and all they said it was, was that there was a slight leak and it needed clamping. It only took them two mins to fix, and the car ran and idled MUCH better after this, but i still know it wont pass the emissions. So what should be done?

the co is adjustable on your vehicle but if its miles out and wont adjust could have an air leak or faulty maf unit

Nothing CAN be done until you get the actual emissions figure so you know which way to adjust.

All the best, Nick.

Stick some redex in the tank, and give it an italian tune-up (drive round at 30 mph in second gear) this can help to blow any crap out.

I had a similar issue with my 1991 740 a few years back. The key I learned: make sure they run it warm - I did 20-30km before the test and arrived just on time for my appointment. Right onto the test and no delays. Also, I noticed they weren't reving it appropriately - so hang around, and keep your eyes open.

I did, ultimately, have to get my catalytic converted replaced, and it's passed easily since then, but I did manage to nurse it through a few years of testing...

I'd ideally like to get this sorted though as i intend to keep the car for a long time and it really does nearly blow you over when starting it in the morning.

Im sure its just a case of a tune up or second hand exhaust needed but im not sure.
