Default '06 c70 18" tires

What tires have owners replaced the original 18" Pirelli summer tires with?
Do they protect the rims from scuffing and get good mileage? Are they quiet?
When my Pirellis were shot at 7,200 miles, I replaced them with Michelin Pilot Sport AS (all season) which, although the same size, appeared to be not as wide and lacked a shoulder guard to protect the rims from damage. Now I need to replace the Michelins and want an All Season tire that fits the wheels better to prevent further damage, get longer life, are quiet.
Please share your ideas.

I use Dunlop Sport 01 or similar, have a good rim to help avoid wheel knocks.

I have recently fitted a set of goodyear F1's to replace the standard rosso's. Went for 225's (18")to give a bit more protection for the rims. Initial impressions are good with less road noise but only done a a few hundred miles in them. Also saved a few quid as the 225 size is a lot more common and thus cheaper.
