Default Cheap acquired XC, a few questions

Sites recently acquired a very cheap end of life xc70.
It's going to see its remaining days off road.
We run all site vehicles on gas oil (red).
Questions were asked why get a car with a dpf, but at the cost?
Said it all. If it works for at least 6 months it'll have proved itself.

When the dpf is removed, will the car go into limp mode?

It's the 2.0 PSA lump.

We can deal with the error messages, they'll get ignored but the functionality of the vehicle must remain as in full engine power. Will this be the case?
Without resorting to gas axing off the filter, would running the engine sat still at say 3krpm be enough to regenerate it?

My thoughts acquiring this is a massive mistake, it's going to spend 20 of its 24 hours a day idling.
And advice on keeping it running reliably would be appreciated.

To my knowledge, the V70 was never manufactured with the 2-litre PSA lump.

4-wheel drive diesel versions all got the 2.4-litre 5-cylinder Volvo engine.

FWD versions initially got the Volvo 5-cylinder 2-litre lump, and later got the 2-litre 4-cylinder Volvo VEA engine.

What year and version is your cheap XC70?

Maybe I was pointed wrong regarding the engine. It's a 2009 2.0d.
Reading up before posting it is the VEA.
My knowledge of these have been from a chap on site owning a v50 money pit 2.0. Seeing 2.0d on the back and hardly looking under the bonnet made me think - PSA, burn it!

The VEA engine was introduced in 2014.

Is there a DRIVe badge on it? If so, then it has the Volvo 5-cylinder 2-litre diesel in it.

It can't be the Ford/PSA engine in an XC70.

Perhaps you need to get some more solid information about the car as we're all just guessing right now.

The V70's badged 2.0D had the Ford/PSA 136BHP engine from the inception of the p3 V70 until circa MY2011 I think. The 1.6D/Drive-E versions had the 1.6D FoMoCo/PSA.

There was never an XC70 with that engine (or 2.0D badging), either 2WD or 4WD, and the VEA engine came in for MY2015.

Red diesel & DPF’s don’t really mix. It needs to be driven to regenerate, idle won’t really do anything (driven as in motorway runs, but you can’t do that if there’s red diesel in the tank). The only way around it would be to do a forced regeneration with some kind of diagnostic software (DPF in situ).

I’d be inclined to see how it goes as is, but you can’t just remove the DPF because the ECU will throw a hissy fit & put the car into limp mode. A non-DPF car would have been a better option, especially as red diesel is being used & its going to be idling for long periods of time.

I have to ask, why does it need to be idling for 20 hours a day & why does it need full engine power?
