C70 Shaking under acceleration
Hi, I've got a 2008 D5 C70 Auto, when i accelerate moderately hard the full car shakes, it pulls and drives fine but shakes very noticeably. As soon as you back off it will be fine, it literally just does it under acceleration.
I have had the wheels balanced and the car has today passed an MOT, I told the tester about the problem and he couldn't find any fault with the suspension arms etc. I suspected the driveshafts but surely it would shake all the time if that were the cause. It will sit at 80mph on the motorway perfectly. Has anyone got any ideas please? |

It's almost certainly a bad CV joint which is well on its way out. I had exactly the same symptoms on my T5 C30. Shook badly on any acceleration but at a constant speed (as on the motorway) it was fine. When it went in to be fixed, the CV joint almost fell apart.
Regards John

Inner CV Joint - would put money on it!

Thanks for the replies guys, sorry for the delay as i've been away for the weekend. Is it a straight 50/50 guess as to which side? The shaking feels more pronounced in the passenger seat is it more likely to be that side?
I'll be over the moon if it is that as the garage suggested it could be the torque converter. |

It was my inner passenger side CV joint that failed. I'm not aware that the passenger side is more prone to failure. The C70 / C30 CV joints are prone to failure - it's not an uncommon problem.
As you say, better than a torque converter problem but still expensive parts wise. I opted for a whole new driveshaft. Regards John

I'll go for that one first, I own a car parts business so that cuts the cost down a bit and just hope for the best, thanks for all your input.

Do you need to drain the gearbox oil? If so is there any special procedure to refilling it or will it be the same as my XC90, slightly overfill, run to temperature and then remove the centre screw on the level plug to drain to correct level.

Can be either side. You will feel movement in the cup of the inner CV, they should be tight.

Auto gearbox is sealed so you won't loose any transmission fluid.
