Even on those items i tend not to bid until the last Andrew, sometimes i'll message the seller to let them know i'm interested but have a budget in mind so will enter my bid later in the auction if it's still within my budget. If there are suddenly a few bids in after this, i often don't bother even if it's still apparently within my budget, usually it's relisted a few days later and i then put my bid in right at the end and get it for the starting bid.

I like it: a fair bit of rust around the windscreen, and more on the rear wheel arches - which will need sorting and probably lead to finding a bit more here and there. The inside looks nice though, and it has a bit of history.

How much will it go for: well, it is firmly in the 'middling cars' category, and still 6 years from qualifying as an historic vehicle, so £2,000 or there about?
... that motor car got just one bid of £1,500 - so at the lower end of the scale. I'd have thought that was quite a good buy and could be turned around to make a nice daily driver.

... so it has been off the road for 2 years. There is also a 10 year gap when the motor car was VOR from 2006 to 2016. It looks like the motor car has probably been sitting on the current owner's drive since he/she bought it in about 2016 as it has only been MoT tested once in that time.

I rather suspect the current owner bought it cheaply as a barn find or similar in 2016, got it through the MoT and has since parked it on the drive waiting for it to appreciate. Perhaps he/she intended to wait until it qualified for historic car status but got bored and couldn't wait another 4 years? Perhaps the ULEZ has made it impractical to keep now?

Anyway, there is a bit more to this than meets the eye, and it is not very good news. Is the motor car worth £5,000? Of course not - £2,500 would be fair.

Alan

PS. Date of last V5C (logbook) issued 10 February 2017
... the seller still hasn't bothered to get a MoT test - the auction ends today (no bids so far).

Can't grumble at that money Alan. Get it stable, rust wise, great little motor!

Many moons left in her!

Keep your eyes peeled Alan, it may well reappear in a month or so (maybe less) looking absolutely immaculate and up for £5k ish.

Alternatively we may see it on here with the new owner asking how to repair the rot round the rear screen!

... I think the second of those is pretty likely Dave - and I rather hope that happens, I thought it was an honest motor car for £1,500 and hope someone like us enjoys it for some years to come.

It is quite possible of course that this is all genuine: that there are 2 or 3 bidders going at it hammer and tongs with still nearly a week to go, that auction fever has taken hold, that we will see a record price for this motor car...

... the other option is the seller made up the bit about a deposit already being taken (that part is rather irrefutable) and has a two of three shill bidding accounts giving us a spectacular auction.

All will become clear soon after the end of the auction if we see the motor car for sale again.

:-)
Well, what I know about it….. it went on Saturday morning, I messaged the guy who said call him. I asked some questions about the usual rusty bits. He said there is some surface rust on the rear arches that it’s booked in to have done this week, I asked for pictures as it is, his reply was the reserve is 10k, it will sell by the end of the weekend, but if it’s still around the end of the week, give him a call and he will send some pics. So not sure why on a car of £10k you wouldn’t be prepared to send a few detailed pics! I did explain their was a good distance between us and if I liked the pics I would go and look.

My thinking was I would probably pay 7k for a very genuine car with that sort of credentials. And didn’t expect it to go that mad. I though it would get to 5k and sit for a while until some last minute bidding.

So the fact he wouldn’t send any detailed pics suggested to me there was possibly a bit more bodywork than he was letting on, the end of the week pictures would see that done. So I though we’ll if he is not going to send pics, I would ask about the presence of spot welds around the rear arches, trying to find out if it seemed original and he wouldn’t confirm that either, just kept saying well it will be sold by the end of tomorrow! So something strange about the whole thing, and the way the bidding has just continued is strange, you normally get a few early bids to a low level a dip with the odd bid in the middle unit a last couple of hours spike. So if this is to have a last couple of hours spike, it’s going to be 20k !

Definitely think we need the ghostbusters as their is something strange in the neighbourhood!
