Default volvo v50 infotainment problem

hi everyone my daughter has brought a 2004 v50 diesel and the infotainment screen lights up but the led appears to be broken as all you can get is the background and white lines down it . she has brought a good used one but when you plug it in it doesnt even light up does it have to be programmed to the car ? if so is there anyone local to stoke who can do this or anyone on here who can help as our local main dealer has quoted £800 for a new screen. and she only paid £750 for the car.

The best thing to do is replace the LCD but keep the main circuit board in the ICM. Buy one from eBay/breakers with the same part number as your vehicle as the connectors for the screen differ between some part number. Open up both units which is relatively easy, and swap over the LCD panel. I'm sure I wrote a write-up on how to do this when I did mine in my S40 and will try to find it. Once it's open there is a level to lidft on the connector for the ribbon cable that attaches the LCD to the main printed circuit board... swap over then reseat the cable and clip back in. From there you should be sorted.

The pictures are broken but hopefully the words are sufficient.

hi i cnt reply to private messages as not enough posts hence why i asked about number
we swapped the lcd over n didnt realise it was a thin piece of glass at the bottom where the wires come out the new secondhand one { replacement for my unit} was cracked at the bottom same as the one on mine was . { think i my have cracked it getting it apart put it in my unit and it brought white lines up the same as the original one will this be why it wouldnt work ? if so what parts numbers are compatible to swap over does it need to be the same part number ?

If the part number is different it's possible the ribbon connector and screen may not be compatible with the main board so it's best to get the same part code. What part code is your unit?

According to VIDA, the following part numbers were all replacements for 8696495 so are likely to be OK...

30679647, 30775261, 30797853, 31268053, 36001467

That said, it is software coded to the car so as I mentioned in an earlier post you need to use the motherboard/PCB from your original part and transplant only the LCD screen from a donor part.

Searching eBay for your original part number brings up plenty of used ones so it shouldn't be hard to find one.
