Nice work. I have a B20 from a late 145 that had been exposed to the elements for decades, when I removed the head a couple of bores were full of water and every piston was seized solid Nothing could be done to remove them, diesel, heat, hammering. Eventually I had to break them out. Unfortunately one of the bores had cracked due to freezing so the block is scrap. It was educational at least! I bought a replacement block but it's all sat under my work bench waiting for me to get the motivation to do anything with it!

It's just a bare engine block, without pistons. In fact, I don't even have any pistons to fit! That's one way to prevent seizing I suppose.

I should clarify, my 145 has the original B18 engine fitted and running, this was a bit of a side project to uprate it to B20 one day. I should really sell/swap all my B20 parts as I can't see it ever getting completed.

Pulled off the upper steering column so I could start cutting into the bulkhead.
Interesting collecting of .. things.. down there. More cutting. First repair in. More cutting. And the repairs. I decided to nip over to have a look at the spare engine. The plan being, to dismantle it completely so that I could lift it by hand. This doesn't look promising, despite the pistons coming out freely. Maybe it will clean up alright, but in the end it doesn't matter. Between both cars I now have a good block, head, and overdrive box. |
