Default USB Stick etc.

Unfortunately I'm getting more and more frustrated with this whole USB stick - Infotainment System malarky of my 2014 XC70 without loosing my sanity. When I first got the car I had my whole I tunes library on a 200GB stick, all the files in their original folders as in the iTunes library, and all seemed to work fine up to the moment Ray Chapman of Malton (Volvo Dealer) changed the battery during a service. After that the stick couldn't be read neither by the infotainment system of my car or by my Mac computer and couldn't be reformatted. So I chucked it out. I bought a new Sandisk 64Gb stick formatted it FAT 32, I put some 400 artists folders with their respective albums and tracks inside them, as I had done with the original 200Gb stick and what do you know, only 4 of the folders show up and the rest seem to have disappeared, and I have been struggling ever since. Someone suggested that I use playlists but how the blazes do you create playlists. There is no comprehensive documentation to be found anywhere on anything about playlists, not even on the net, it's like it's just an option in the menu because it looks good. The whole USB / infotainment system is as thick as mud. I have asked hardened Volvites but to no avail, I'm getting increasingly frustrated.

Is there anyone of you clever people who can shed a light on this very annoying situation?

Thanks for all your help in advance.

Mine is working fine with a standard Windows formatted USB stick. Music in folders only, I've never created playlists.

Same here, but limiting stick size to 32GB to ensure that everything works properly.

All of the music is in MP3 format, with each MP3 file created by FLACSquisher using a variable bit rate algorithm.

This has enabled me to get over 35,000 tracks onto seven memory sticks. The quality is also more than adequate for the Volvo stereo system.

Bit late now I know but for future reference and if you have access to a windows machine or a windows virtual machine Steve Gibson's InitDisc utility is fantastic for formatting USB sticks which can't be seen or formatted in the usual way. Fire it up first and then insert your unreadable USB stick.

Thanks for that JRL, I'm running Macs at home and my big iMac has parallels installed so I'll have a go.

Thanks again
