Default V60 D5 Rear pad/disk change

Evening,

I have recently changed the rear pads and disks on my 2013 V60 D5 using genuine Volvo parts. I followed the instructions as per the Volvo leaflet which stated how to wind back the epb motor manually, compress the piston fully etc.

My issue is now that the airgap between pad and disk is non-existant. At low speeds with windows down, a faint grinding noise is audible as if the pads were worn. I have measured the temperature of the disks with my FLIR temp gun and found the rear disks at 95 degrees, compared to the fronts at 71 degrees.

My questions are do the main dealers have capability to reset and adjust the EPB ?

Cheers

Have you tried applying the handbrake (not sure of configurations on this model) a few times, undertaken a drive and then jacked up each rear wheel and tested.

If there is no drag I would be happy personally. Of course if there is drag thats an issue.

Not sure how effective heat guns are etc...

The air gap is so small as to be not to be noticeable , I would guess the thin backplate was bent when you were doing the job and is rubbing on the disc .

Yes. Brake pedal fully depressed then cycled a few times, followed by cycling the EPB several times. I used a FLIR infra-red gun with photo capability. I can post the pictures if anyone is interested.

In regards to the back plate, when the pads are removed the disks spin freely with no issues. The reason I changed the pads/disks because was due to excessive wear.

IMHO the rear wheels should spin freely with whilst on jacks and present no friction as per the front setup.

Now I have found a PDF from TRW calipers stating the EPB motor calibrates itself after a brake pad change, calculates the torque required against the new pad, then self adjusts the air gap. I don't think this is happening as the problem is replicated on both rears.

Ps its also have a full brake fluid change.

Cheers

Jack it up and spin the wheels. If it is hard/doesn't spin easily then be concerned.

If it spins and all you can hear is the pad lightly rubbing the disk but with no real pressure then nowt to worry about.

It's the audible faint grinding noise I hear every time I drive down my road with the windows down that concerns me Ben. See attachment.

Also take note of the heat soak colouring on the pads forward edge.

I will keep you posted, have a few more areas to check this weekend.

I think that is gripping a bit too much. Mine doesn't make that much noise.

I would disassemble and reassemble. There is probably something which hasn't quite calibrated properly.

I have just seen your video and personally that would not concern me. I would see that as bedding in.

You have fitted new pads on worn discs , the disc is not flat like the pad so is only touching on the inner and outer part of the disc which is rusty , You just need to use the brakes as normal and the pads will clean up the discs and the noise will go away .. the discs still look serviceable by the way .
A picture is worth 1000 words !
