Cam belt tensionor problem
Hi.
Owned my V70 2.4 for about a year. Doing my first cam belt change. Problem. Everything is back in place. All marks ok. However, problem setting the tension. With the tensioner bolt with washer loose enough for the tension indicator to move freely I use the 6 mm hex to set it in the middle position. However, when I then tighten the bolt, even below torque spec the indicator moves about 6-7 mm to the right. Is this correct? Have reset the tensioner and repeated several times. The new tensioner is from an SKF belt kit. I assume the indicator should move quite freely when you do this a per instruction you have to counterhold w the hex until tightened. Any advice,? ( PS. I did this w/o removing the crank pully. My cheap bore scope came in handy to check crank postion) |

I can't think what could be causing it to happen, but I certainly don't remember it happening on mine.

Hi.

Have you got the correct tensioner ie. early or late version ? When you tension up the belt with the Hex Key are you going past the mid position and then coming back to it ? You could try "nipping up" the centre bolt first and then slackening off just enough until the hex adjustment part starts to move . |

Thanks for the advice. Sorted.
The new tensioner was the problem. Was returned and a new INA one fitted. Now works fine. Lesson learnd. |
