need a new central locking key.
Hello everyone,
I've been an owner of a 2001 phase 2 volvo v40 for a couple of weeks now and have really been enjoying the car so far. Of course a car of this age may have a few minor isseus, but this is nothing that cannot be fixed either by myself or an expert, although I have hit a snag when it comes to the central locking keyfob. As you can see, there is not much left of the only key I got with the car, and the remote for central locking fob was missing altogether. I suspect that this is simply the spare key to the car. It was gleud shut with an epoxy to whatever remained of the original key made by the Denso corporation. Luckely this key is perfectly functional, despite it not it beign the prettiest, but I figured that if i had to create a new key (and use my current one as a spare) i'd just pay the extra money to get a fully programmed key, including remote central locking. Problem is, I went to my local volvo dealer to discuss this, and have been told that these remotes are no longer supplied, and thus it is impossible to do, the only thing they still program is the key itself, not the central locking bit. I've been searching this forum for any workaround, or if perhaps a central locking device from say a wrecked car can be reprogrammed for usage in my car, but alas without results. Does anyone here know IF there is a workaround for the remote control? |

Hi,
I had a similar issue on day 2 of owning my Volvo the blade snapped on my key leaving the car stuck on the driveway. I contacted what seemed like every company on the planet and nobody could get me a replacement as they kept saying they’re not being made anymore, but after a lot of pestering one company in London said they managed to source some and bought them in bulk as they realised they had a bit of a monopoly on them. https://www.carkeyssolutions.co.uk/ Might be worth dropping them a message even if you can just buy the key from them to then get it programmed closer to home if you’re far away. |

Here's what i did with my key . ...see pics .
Bought a new key case from ebay like this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fits-Volv...wAAOSweDdayPxx probably available cheaper elsewhere ? Carefully cut open up the old key to get to the immobiliser chip,.. pics should help to locate it ! You can either have the new blade cut by a key cutting/specialist place ,.. or cut grind & shape the old blade to fit in to the new case. I used my old blade. As well as cutting it to the right shape, it also had to be made slightly thinner to slot in the case, i then glued the blade in to the new case using araldite & also made a small pin from a bit of nail, or screw to insert in to the hole for extra security, so i had to make sure the holes lined up ok . I also used a very tiny amount of araldite on the chip to stop it rattling around in the case. I did both of my keys about 3 years ago, so they are quite robust . |

Thanks for the replies everyone, isseu has been resolved from an unexpected corner.
Dealer called me back, they found a remote that had not been programmed yet (I also asked about reprogramming key and remote, this is not possible, in case anyone wondered). Thanks for the responses everyone! |
