Default Cable broken around radiator - what's its function?

Hi,

(Volvo v40 2003 1.6i petrol manual)

When trying to do something I broke a tube around the radiator - see attached photos.
What's its function?
Is it the "charge air pipe" that leads to the "pressure sensor" (right side of cable connects to item with code Pierburg PA6-GF30)

Would I be able to drive it to the local garage as is?

I'd planned to drive to airport tomorrow.
Can i tape it up and drive the car? or is it not recommended.

Anyone got a part number in case i have to get a new one.
Is this something a novice could replace?
On the right side the tube seems to push into the sensor, I can't see where it goes to at the broken end.

Thanks
Donal.

I've got the 1.6 myself too & had never noticed that until you posted today.

I'd guess it's a way of sending a temperature signal, but it does seem odd; why not just an electrical signal?

From what you describe, if you run the engine there's no water coming out?

I'd have thought not if the pipe's just a push-fit.

Perhaps you can put some tape around it to hold it in place, rather like a sleeve over it, until you can replace it.

that is the fuel tank vent hose , it vents into the manifold through the control valve . Use a hose suitable for fuel ...

@Clan - thanks.

Can I still drive the car i.e. a short distance?
I'm assuming it's push-fit both ends?

should be ok for short journey but you can block off the stub on the engine to make it run properly whilst you get a new hose .It will be sucking in unwanted air otherwise
