well does the soda dissolve solid soot in a pipe , 3mm dia x say 2 inches around a 90 degree bend ?? worth a try ! but so rare that it is unlikely to happen to you .

Thank you Clan. I've had a quick look at it and I can see it won't be easy.
I have access to some chemicals at work, and also compressed air. I'll give it a go. If it works great, if not we also have metal recycling bins so nothing to lose really.

It was quite a common thing to have to do to 2-stroke motorcycle exhaust pipes when they became blocked with soot.

Looking forward to your findings. You could then sell it on an exchange basis to a fellow forum member!

Well it seems the car is not sorted and we had the bad smell inside the car again. Pulled bonnet and found smoke from engine. Phoned dealer but unable to help. Out of warranty. We have continued on holiday and made it but I'm not impressed. We stopped off at another dealers just off the motorway who took a quick look at it for me. Within seconds he found the problem, said he couldn't understand how my local dealer had missed this, as it originally went in due to a smell of burning oil. We are now on holiday with a car we are reluctant to use.
Seems my rocker box cover gasket has gone. Hoping it will last anothr week.

About a month ago I noticed an oily smell in the car when the engine was hot and I was stationary. This was reported to the dealer when I contacted them about the recall. That's why they had my car straight in. They did the work for the recall but missed the gasket leaking. Again when they carried out the emap pipe replacement they missed the gasket leaking even though it's right next to it. There are parts around the back of the engine by the emap pipe that are damp and oily to touch. It seems like they are only able to find a problem if it puts a warning code up.
The oily smell when hot was reported to the dealer from the start. I'm now on holiday £250 lighter and a car that has not been fixed and we now don't want to use because the leak will only get worse, not better.

Sorry for my ignorance but I am looking at buying xc60.
Is the issue only effecting the 2.0 or is the 2.4 also effected? Thanks in advance |
