Halfords Dashcam Fitting Hardwired

Hi all

Has anyone had a dashcam fitted on a newish XC60 at Halfords. Keen to hear feedback.

Having had two people drive into me within the last 2 years I do want a dash cam. But on my previous car a MY20 V60 Halfords were unable to install it
Despite claiming they could. So was wondering whether they can do it with a MY20 XC60 T8.

Nextbase probably.

Also I know about the ‘Volvo don’t recommend’ and keeping a distance from the radar unit.

Most of them go for the fuse box, and they're notoriously difficult to get to, at least on my V90 it was anyway. You're much better getting an auto electrician to fit it I reckon. I fitted mine myself as I'm quite well versed with things like that, but I wouldn't trust a Halfords fitter to even change a bulb to be honest.

Oh you should, it's great fun. Watching them rip their hands to shreds & expanding your vocabulary at the same time is well worth the money.

Search for Dashcam in this forum. You should find the topic where dashcam installation is described. I have a hardwired dashcam in my V60. Wire runs from the dashcam across to the nearside pillar, down and under the glovebox and into the central tunnel. It is connected to the underside of the 12v socket. Pictures etc in the topic

I did exactly the same on my V90 - I basically disconnected the 12v socket and plugged the dashcam into a replacement socket under the tunnel.

Did exactly the same on my xc90 and a colleagues XC60.

I had Halfords fit their own brand front and separate rear HD dashcam with hardwire kitin Dec 2018 on my MY19 XC60 T6.
Did a great job and touch wood never had to use my webcam for insurance purposes.
Had a very close call about a year ago when someone shifted lane without looking and almost side swiped me, so wanted to check footage. If he'd hit me it was clear he changed lanes without indicating etc and would've been bang to rights.
