Default Help - engine won;t start after fuel filter change

Firstly, apologies that this is a duplication of some rough idling issues under a separate thread, but wanted to post this issue specifically in case someone has experienced this problem on its own.

After fitting the new filter, which looked the same as the old one, I turned the ignition on, left it for a few seconds, did this a second time then started it up - it ran for a few seconds then stalled.

I tried starting it again but it wouldn't start.

I took the filter casing off again and it was full of diesel.

Took the filter out, rotated it through 180 degrees then put it back.

the car will still not start. When you turn the ignition on, I cannot hear any noise like priming the fuel (seem to remember it did this before, but not sure now, it's probably one of them things you get used to hearing?).

Any ideas?

You may need to crank the engine for 30-45 secs before the filter and system becomes primed again.

Yes - it will feel like the battery is going to flatten, but it will eventually fire up. Been there and got the T-shirt.

yes!! - thanks timh30 - took about a minutre of cranking, but now started, although this hasn't solved my rough idleing issue - back to the other thread!

Thanks again buddy - without your help, I would not have known to crank the engine for so long so would have been stumped!

You shouldn't need to crank it for it to self prime. Just sit it out at pos II for a minute, you may even hear the tank pump cutting out.
Some advise filling the new filter with clean fuel before reassembly to give it a leg up on the priming. I don't.

For info, I had to turn mine over for about a minute also.
Was getting nervous as the battery was starting to get bored with it.

yeah, I connected my stand-by battery up to the battery in the car to give it a bit of an extra boost.

I left the key on position II but there was no noise from the pump at all, not even a priming 'squirt' ?

Smile Friendly advice.

Can I politely suggest that you invest in a Haynes manual.
I've helped you out on one of your other posts and will gladly help you out again but I must say you seem a little too ready to start jobs with little knowledge of the outcome.
This really isn't a criticism as I've been very guilty of that in the past and there'll always be some kind of answer on here.
It's more to stop you getting stranded.
You've left your car immobile a couple of times now for pretty simple stuff.
When I say simple, I mean simple once you know.
I've found this forum invaluable already and it makes a huge difference if you ask before starting a new job.
Please take this in the right way.
