agree with the last few posts re manuals - I have manuals for both the other cars I own (72 VW camper and 72 Vw Beetle) - in fact I have always had manuals for my classic cars (I have had quite a few) and find them very useful as jobs are simpler and more specific on older cars.

I tend to find that most modern manuals tend to just refer the user to their local dealer/diagnostic centre when it comes to anything relating to electronics/engine management.

I dare say that the very helpful people on forums such as this one have had more experience with identifying/resolving issues than the people write write the manuals.

There is no substitute for experience and the chances are if someone has a problem then someone else has already had it and resolved it and can share their knowledge/experience.

Ours didndt want to know after a 3 mile tow at 25 with repeated attempts. So we're sitting there debating the end of the world and I thought I would give it one more try on the key. Bosh straight in there like nothing had ever happened AND now warning lights etc either...yay Praise be.

As mentioned , Haynes are NOT what they used to be many years ago, even my old Corsair W/shop manual is Superior to what they sell today !! The best manual was Autobooks , Mk2 Jaguar even had the complete strip down of an Auto box !!
