Default Engine covers

Got a query over 2.0 petrol engines fitted with VVR cams, I have an 2001, post face lift car, purchased with the plastic engine cover missing
I purchased off eBay an engine cover correct for year and type, and it don't fit,
So does the post facelift petrol non turbo 2.0 have the same engine cover as the 1.8 model to say i'm puzzled is a understatement the problem is the lifting eye on the right hand end and the housing fouling the cover

Covers should all be the same on cars from late 1999 to 2004. Do you have any photos?

This is an original 2001 2lt engine cover, yours should look similar.

They are definitely the correct covers. The flatter plastic (on the right) cover, is meant to slide under the bigger cover, which I think you have already done. My only guess is that the coipacks wiring, may be placed wrongly, which does not allow the cover to seat smoothly on the metal service. Can you remove that cove and post a photo of how the coilpacks are seated. Or even better, try removing all the coilpacks and see if the cover will seat properly on the engine

My T4 had this problem, turned out that the lifting eye as in ItsV40's photo was bent ever so slightly inwards, thus preventing the cover from going into place, some precision tapping with a small hammer bent it back to where it should be and then all was well.

There is nothing wrong with my cover or coil packs. I only posted the photo as a point of reference for the OP so they could see what a correctly fitted original cover looks like.

thanks guys, the cover I was on about is the plastic one that covers the whole engine , clearly not all 2.0 had them, the one with Volvo 16 valve written on it, with a hole for the oil filler
even the covers as shown were missing on my car, i will now have to try to find a set,

Our phase 1 had the type you describe. It was a 1600 engine though, although that's not written on it. I think the smaller kind (as photographed above) was for the phase 1.5. I found out (the hard way) that the cylinder heads don't match and the covers are also non-interchangeable.

Thought only the Diesels and the GDi had those covers?
