Default Breaks problem

Hi all,

Just had my s40 in for some breaks repairs, but the guy said it might be the abs, is that a hard job and pricey?

Thanks

Adam

An abs sensor or ring won't be crazy money but an abs pump may be expensive.
You'd hope that a mechanic with the car in front of him would be able to diagnose and not be so vague.

What's the problem exactly?
An ABS pump failure could cause the pedal to feel spongy.

Yeah thats it spongy, thought the breaks needed bleeding, as got replaced in nov/dec, but that didn’t do much.

I had this problem with my S40, the brakes were spongy, but bleeding didn't do anything. I still had bite at the bottom end of the pedal and I could still brake really hard but not much in between.

I got a second hand ABS pump on ebay, for about £25, and this solved the problem. A brand new unit from Volvo is something ridiculous like £800 even though it's a common Bosch unit, used in loads of other cars.
