You have two main options. One is to use WIN OLS like the majority of 'tuners' do, and the second is to use the programming tool which Volvo themselves use(d). The former is available to purchase and download, but does not give you full access to the ECU, and does not give you complete descriptions of individual maps, whilst the latter, which gives you complete access, is near impossible to get for obvious reasons. There may be other software packages available to access and change maps in the EMS2000 that I am not aware of, and hence cannot comment on.

One other thing I forgot to mention with regards to Enigma666's case is if he has a protection board, then even a Volvo dealer may be unable to blank out the code because the protection board will prevent a VEMS download, which I believe is the way the code needs to be erased. From experience, ECUs with protection boards will either "crash" or "hang" the VEMS download which at best will leave the software as it is, or at its worst leave the ECU with a partial download which could render the car undriveable.

So as long as I can get an EMS 2000 ECU I can send it to Sweden and get that one flashed and reset, then swap it into my car, then send it to Marco or get it tuned by Marco independantly of my Rica
Excellent.
trip to the scrappy for me
Does the EMS 2000 ECU only come in turbo aplication cars?

A "spare" ECU from a scrappy should only be around £20 so it may be worth a try, but I think its still a little tricky to work on an ECU from a used car if you don't know the VIN, given lots of software is "ordered" according to that. I think you need to speak to Don at Kalmar Union about this and ask if he can contact Marco to get his advice on it.

Yes, the EMS2000 was only used in turbo X40s as far as I know (for Volvos anyway).

not quite as the verlog code must be zeroed in the car it came from before removal or it won't work in the other car ..
Software is different on S/V40 to the rest of the range you don't order software by number or pay for it directly it resides in the dealer on the machine , it is just updated no codes exist or are used to do this ...
the "verlog" code is unknown to anybody ...
as from 2000 the EMS 2000 was used on non turbo cars as well
