850 ignition barrel replacement
How easy is it to remove the ignition barrel and replace with a donor from another car. I need all the locks from the donor car so it would be nice to have the barrel also.
I cannot find any articles on the 850. I have read a bit for the v70 but it is very negative. Requiring the new ignition barrel to be synchronised to your car or something

What a great article. Just what I was after. I haven’t read it all yet but I have already got the barrel off. Unfortunately the car won’t start using the spare barrel. I even used the plastic ring that goes round the barrel (not sure what that is but it has wires to it.)
The car spins over but won’t start. Is there anything else I need to swap over or will it need to be tuned in to my car somehow. Any hints!

Might be transponder? Honestly don't know past what the article states, sorry!

I would say you will need the transponder chip from inside your original key.
What you may be able to do to check is pull the immobiliser fuse and see if it will start. |

If you still have access to the car you got the parts from you could grab that transponder piece and fit that.

So the transponder is only there for the key to start the car?
I do have the spare car so swapping the transponder with the barrel may work? It looks like it is well fixed in a metal frame on the side of the steering shaft. I want to swap all locks and ignition when I get chance, so I hope this will work. Thanks for the responses.
