Default New Volvo

Just part exchanged my V50 D5 of 5 1/2 years ownership.

Sorry to see it go, and shed a few tears.

Had the 2016 V40 D2 Auto R Design Pro for 1 week now.

What a brilliant car, full of toys, sits on 18" rims, which makes it handle like a go kart.

Reason for change was the V50 D5 was starting to show it age.

Also liked the £20 road tax and +50 mpg, where as the V50 D5 was £230 road tax and 30 mpg, due to driving in town, its defo suited to motorways.

Excellent driving position and snug hugging full leather seats.

Just finally getting round to understanding all the set up options in MY CAR.

In normal drive the car is great, in ECO it drives like an old mans car, but when you stick it in sports mode, my god, everything seems to beef up and the acceleration is more responsive and you also get engine braking as if you had a manual.

I was a bit worried coming down in horse power from 180 to 120, but I wasn't disappointed, the D2 is ample enough for me!!!!!

God knows how the D4 goes as I cant see why you would want any more and sacrifice mpg.

The only thing I have a bit of a gripe about is the road noise in the cabin, its a bit boomy, but I put it down to the 18" rims on the R Design Pro, might be better sitting on 17" rims on the basic R Design.

But this can all be drowned out from the top of the range premium DAB radio, it even plays DVD films, as its got SAT NAV.

Fingers crossed it gives me many years of trouble free motoring, just like the V50 D5 did.

Look forward to see how it pans out!!!!!!!!!!

If most of your driving is in town, then ideally you should have gone for a petrol. The DPF will get blocked.

I drove the D2 and it felt pretty weedy if I'm honest.

The saving grace is that being a 2ltr engine that is restricted to 120bhp, the potential for unlocking extra power should be pretty decent, especially given it's a Volvo unit.

I never liked the V40 until I actually drove one however. It felt solid, heavy and very "volvo-ish" to drive which is good. The interior also felt much more feature-rich compared to the S40/V50 whereby the interior felt very bare.

The only thing wrong with it is the handbrake is on the wrong side of the centre console.

There is no polestar upgrade for the D2. Most people seem to feel the D2 is a bit underpowered. Still I am sure it is a great car for steady cruising. Interestingly they seem to be the cheapest model on the used market even vs the T2 petrol.

i drove the V50 D5 round town for 5 1/2 years and didn't miss a beat, even in the MOT centre, the CO2 analyser couldn't get a reading and was blowing out fresh air even at full throttle.

Was very hard to find a T2 Auto R Design Pro, but loads of D2's

I did have doubts about the power difference between the D5 to the D2, but I am prepared to take this on the chin as I am no boy racer.
If you have ever owned a V70 the hand brake is in a similar position so doesn't bother me, to be honest you don't really use it in an auto as it has anti roll back and hill start feature, only use it to park

Yep, petrol models are far rarer than diesels. You can take your pick when it comes to the latter.
