Any movement on the classic policy restrictions?

I.e. 1990 760 Turbo diesel, 12k per year, not garaged (private driveway).

Not yet I'm afraid, they still class classic as limited mileage, 2nd car, garaged.

I note that Volvo now offer a 'Red Key' accessory for SPA-model vehicles that automatically decreases engine power, presumably to restrict the performance available for young drivers and the like.
IIRC, you don't normally allow under-25s to be insured on your policies - just wondering whether use of the red key would be sufficient for your underwriters to approve an under-25 to be insured on such a car please?

It looks like a good idea for the owner's peace of mind when lending the car. I'm not sure that merely having possession of a red key would satisfy insurers that the red key was always being used by the young driver. How would you see it working in practice?

If you were to agree to insure the car for an under-25 driver using the red key, then that would become part of the conditions of insurance - if I then chose to allow a named under-25 driver to use my car on a normal key and they had an accident my insurance would be null and void and I'd lose £45K worth of car...that alone would be incentive enough for me to ensure that the red key is the only key used by the young driver.

Wouldn't the potential loss of £45k cause some to claim they were driving instead or that the red key was being used? Do you know if there's some log of which key is in use at any given time that drivers would be prepared to let insurers have access to?

I'm not being difficult, just anticipating the counter argument from insurers.
