Well, it’s finally done! My 1962 PV with a B18B 115 HP engine was completely taken apart, new floor panels, door sills and front and rear valences replaced, new wiring, new suspension, new brake cylinders and lines, new fuel tank and lines, new interior, new fasteners all around, etc.
Today I took it for a 30 miles test drive on the highway, no vibrations and could get 80 mph (at 8500 feet altitude).
Slowly remembering what it was driving when the world was young and green!
Thank you all for the advice and tips provided during the restoration
Cheers

What a beauty, the top is impressive, but the underneath is amazing.

Default PV restoration

Well Adarvasi I would like to congratulate you on your stunning restoration. The car looks superb now you have completed it. I am at the start of my rebuild of a 1959 PV and as I write this am recovering from another day welding the inverted body shell on home made rotisserie. Did you keep a record of time and money spent getting your car to that standard? I am hoping to try and keep costs to around £4K by making all repair panels and doing all work myself including engine rebuild and paint. Don’t realistically expect to achieve your standard.

Salop, thank you very much for your kind comments. My car was done in a rotisserie, all the body work was done by professional craftsmen, I have no experience or knowledge to do it myself, I did the refurbishing of some components such as the heater and windshield wipers, overhauled the carburetors, installed the new wiring harnesses and participated in some of the mechanical disassembly and assembly. The engine and transmission were not touched because they are in perfect condition.
I do have a detailed cost record, and you don’t want to find out about it! The manpower cost for the body work and the mechanical portion was about your budget, which is extremely reasonable; the cost of the spares (roughly 510 different items), chroming, freight, painting supplies, upholstery manpower, etc was around US$30,000 more, so this is not a money making operation by any means, it is the fulfillment of a youthful wish to own a PV544... and you live only once!
The interesting thing is that I have received already two offers to buy it, for a price that will cover the expenses and a little more, but I am not really interested right now.
Cheers
