Is the shock bottoming out and knocking the mount through (top mounts?) due to weak/r/lowered/nivomat springs. I had a V70R in last week that someone had replaced nivomats with standard shockers and left the lowered weaker springs in designed to work with the nivomats

Remove the boot floor panel (4 x 10mm bolts and slide towards the rear of the car) nearest the rear seat. The top mounts are under there and bounce the rear of the car. You will be able to see straight away if they have failed as the shocks will be lifting up into the car.
