Company car user- S60 D3 Business Edition good choice?
Hi All,
I need to decide on a new company car and am reviewing my options. Currently drive an Audi A3. My limit is £22k OTR list price. I have looked at the VW Passat, Golf. Model etc. I have never really had first hand experience, my parents had a number of them and always swore by them for safety and reliability. I like the look of the S60 and the business edition seems like a good spec for the money. I am in my mid thirties, is this still seen as an older mans car? Also, When are volvo likely to replace the S60 and bring out a new model? At facelifts pending? |

[QUOTE=Mancs1980;1292197]Hi All,
I am in my mid thirties, is this still seen as an older mans car? (/QUOTE] Welcome, you repeat what my son says. Being the wrong side of 70 years old, I think the S60 and V60 are young mans cars. tem.

As for being an old mans car Ha! there are a mixed generation of age groups throughout this forum! some in their 20's like myself even i have driven an S60 (but D5 R Design) and loved it. as far as i know no there are none coming that have been announced. my only thing i did really not like in the S60 hate to say this was the clutch and manual box as it did not suit the car the clutch had little feel and was far to light for my tastes the box was far to sloppy as well (and considering i was driving a D5 it was very disconcerting as there was no feel considering the sheer amount of pull it had), if it was a company car would you really need the extra performance of the D3 from a BIK point of view? Plus my point being that for MY2013 the D3 is no longer 150/163 but back down to 136PS which is slightly disappointing (considering it is a 5 cyl these days). The Business Edition is very good from a tax point of view, I think. I would suggest driving the D3 (136bhp) and the D4 (163bhp & 295ft-lb, same engine otherwise) back to back to see which you prefer.
My 2011 V60 is the 'old' D3 with 163bhp and it's utterly effortless and still surprisingly quick when you actually poke the throttle pedal. Most of the time you just waft around barely brushing the pedal. Ninja59 is right, the clutch is very light but you do get used to it quickly. The manual box on mine is precise, however. I've averaged over 46mpg (genuine) in the 20K miles I've had mine. Considering the performance available, which does get used I reckon that's excellent. |

I think the S60 is a nice car. At that price range I would also look at the Alfa Romeo Guiletta.

Thanks for the replies guys, some food for thought.
Looking around the specification of the S69 really shines given the price point. One reservation, boot space. Any of you guys reps? Just intrigued to find out how you have found living with the boot spaces on a day to day basis... Thanks again |

Thanks- I have had a quick look and the D3 is only about £3 a month more in terms of tax! So fairly negligible really. Can anyone confirm if I have worked this out correctly? Last edited by Mancs1980; Nov 20th, 2012 at 21:39. |
