Default front seat warmers

I just found out that the seat warmers don't work anymore. Thou the switch lights up and there is current running on the circuit up to the point were a watch battery/diode-like part. Using a tester, the electric current ends up at this point, thus preventing the elements from heating up.

What is this part called and does anybody know the part number and where can this part be sourced?

Non-working seat heaters are pretty much standard now. I pulled some replacements from a spare set of seats and managed to cobble together a working pair. Replacements were available from Volvo last time I looked or from IPD

Probably worth checking out and repairing the springs, metal support grid and the seat foam while you have the seats out and the covers off. None of its difficult just a lot of tugging and bad language. Good use of a rainy saturday/sunday though and the seats are much more comfy when all the springs and grid are in place and the foams repaired.

I think the metal button type thing is supposed to be a thermostat that shuts off power to the heating elements once the seat reaches a certain heat - I don't know anything else about it though.

Thank you for all the help. Seems right, it must have been a thermostat that controls/regulates the heater. I just hope somebody knows the Part No. of this thermostat.

On my 1988 240GL the passenger seat warmer switch doesn't light up when switched on but the drivers seat side does. The switches are either side of the handbrake surround. Anyone any ideas? Can't see anything obvious. It doesn't bother me that much in that I've only used them a handful of times in 21 years, can't stand the smell of burning chestnuts!

Cheers

Phil

The bulb? Remove the switch and you can access the bulb holder from the rear of the switch.

As has already been said this is a thermostat. The normal failure is the wires breaking at the spade connectors so check them carefully. Also do make sure that the thermostat is cold when you test it! It may just have done its job and opened because it had reached the specified temperature which is quite low IIRC.
