Default VIN Question

Hello fellow Volvo friends.
I have a quandary I'm hoping you can help me solve. My 1971 Volvo P1800E was in the hands of my ex, who has sold it out from under me (long story). The woman who bought it does not know the story behind the vehicle or his or my agreement. I am trying to find out who she is. The P1800 was bought new by my grandmother in 1971, I inherited it in 1999, did a loan agreement with my ex on it 2 years ago, and he went against our agreement and sold it behind my back. I now live in CA and the car is in VA (so is he), so I'm trying to do what I can from a distance and without having contact with him (the last contact I had was ugly,as you can imagine!).

DMV can't tell me anything since the car isn't in my name anymore. With the other outlets I've used, when the VIN is run, the 11 digits doesn't register in the new computer systems (i.e. an insurance agent and a car dealer). Is there a conversion I have to use?

Any thoughts or assistance would be great appreciated. I have a neutral party ready to go talk to whomever has my car (with my scrapbook and all!). I just need to find out who they are!

Thanks!

Without wishing to spend someone else's money, you do live in PI country. Surely the fastest way (not the cheapest) to get the info you seek is to hire an investigator in VA local to the car?

Yes, I called a PI, and legally, they can no longer access DMV records without legal cause. I'd be happy to pay a PI, he just can't legally do it. However, an insurance broker friend of mine checked his system and the record for the VIN didn't come up - same with the car dealership. So...
A PI outside of VA who has access to VA DMV can do it...just need to find one. Or an explanation as to why an 11 digit VIN isn't coming up in the new systems. Surely there are other antique cars out there being registered and insured that the systems have to accommodate?

1= M90 manual Gearbox
6= Year of build 2006
2= Factory code [Belgium] Ghent Plant VCG 22

Just been out and checked the numbers again from the plate on the dash -- and also on the reg document

Both are the same YV1RS714162548876

Feel a little concerned at what you are saying about the engine size etc -- the log book has the size as 2401 cc
model type S60 SE D 185 E4
Variant RS71
Version RS7141??
engine number 372016

Is there a mistake??
