They could do, unless you get your wheels balanced on the vehicle...

Oh yes! when ive had my wheels refurbished they have always been powder coated rather than the cheapy paint refurbed...they are SO much easyer to keep clean, as it all just wipes off...oh and my refurb guy tells me, dont use cleaners, as they eat the alloy and the clearcoat if you still have it...use the water at the bottom of the bucket after cleaning your car....he's a pro, i listen to pro's

Default Powder Coating - OK? - your guess is as good as mine...

Just saw this - you pays your money and you takes your choice - I wouldn't know which way to jump after reading it...

Hmm. Valid argument by the looks of it, however from my own experience, ive never met or personally heard of anyone who has had problems with their wheels after powder coating them.
I would imagine that the wheels are checked for cracks, stress raisers before coating, but I wouldnt know.

Ive had my bike wheels done before with no ill effects.

But it makes you wonder though. The finish looks great doesn't it? Would like to hear from anyone who has any other info or opinions as I've a set of wheels on an older car that need refurb. Also, what's the concensus about keeping them clean? Are they easier than standard finished alloys?

Keeping clean wise, theyre ace. They clean easier because the powder fills in the imperfections/eggshelling of the alloy, etc and therefore gives a really smooth surface finish. It is more of a case of wiping off the crud rather than scrubbing it off, as the crud has less to afford a grip to.

Thanks for that - they look a lot easier to keep clean but there's no substitute for personal experience.

ive had two sets of alloys powdercoated in the past, theres less choice of colours but the finish was excellent. Only gripe really is that when the tyres were fitted it cracked and peeled off the laquer on the rims. Maybe a careless tyre fitter?
