Like it how all the bidders id's are hidden, sounds to me as if he has someone bidding to push the price up. No way are the sports worth this much in my opinion, yes they are rare and very nice, but not to this extent. Why should anyone fund another one of his projects, and as the car only sold for £800 a few months ago, this is one hell of an increase in value in such a short time.

Values are hard to quantify, I suspect SE and I paid a similar amount for our cars??.....somewhat less than the eBay car, and I paid even less for my Pirate (black one), but it's condition, lack of History/paperwork were reflected in the purchase price.
My Silver one is a very nice car, but I still had work to do, wheels (5 of) refurbished (eBay car still needs this) new Air con condenser, and a good few quid getting it to Stage 0 tune. However my car, and I believe Stephens too, are around the 175,000 + mileage, and this car is low mileage. I agree with Stephen regarding the colour, but these things are in the eye of the beholder. To the right person I guess it could be worth the money, although I would have thought maybe £1k cash would have been sensible as an upper limit...but how much did Chesh get for his? These cars have always been hard to find, and it will only become harder and you still see late, regular 940's make a lot more money than this, well ok advertised for more, whether they sell or not who can say. But I also agree with Stephen in not being mad about later...FWD Volvo's...I like my front wheels to steer me and my rear wheels to push me along...that's just me and the old luddite I am. Also the 940 has more room than the later cars (not sure about XC90 etc though?). You can, at a cost, always make a 940 handle, maybe not enough to keep up with a T5R around a track I'll grant you, but you can't make a later Volvo bigger...at any money. For most the later cars will be more than big enough, but not for me. J |

yes but the money chesh would have gotten for his still probably didnt reflect the cash and labour that he put into the car as it was one of the best around . |

Re: shill bidding

No longer can you check out the opposition's bidding history either, 'cos they replaced realIDs with 'Bidder1' etc. eBay say it makes it fair, and protects buyer privacy. I say it is a cheaters charter!! Good case of that last night, I think - 95 850 2.5 no mot, no tax, stored for over three years, 116,000 miles. Not serviced or had any attention since 2001 at 82,000 miles, and final bidder put £551 on it four times. Gotta be a fix methinks! Cheers, T

There are forms for reporting shill bidding - if you suspect it then report him and eBay will investigate!
You can still check bid history but not as in depth as you previously could. eBay now do the Bidder 1, Bidder 2 etc on all auctions. The seller of the red sport has selected keep all bidders identities private option. I paid almost double what that red sport is up to for Chesh's 940 sport. That was with Polaris with brand new tyres, long mot and tax, a full tank of fuel, a lot of recent work done and delivered over 500 miles to my door. The car wasn't even up for sale at the time of me buying it - it was what I wanted and what my family needed. In retrospect any 940 estate would have done and probably a few other estates, too. I've been looking for a black 940 sport since I could drive so there was sentiment there, too. |

And chesh's sport is probably worth it as well, and it is well known on here, so no real risk in it. But for the one on ebay, the present owner only owning it for a few months, and then re sells it on ebay, maybe there is more to it than simply wanting to fund another project. I was lucky with mine, the seller was worried about the amount of miles he was putting on it, it is not perfect, but it is also a well known about car on here, and the price was very right, and I had the cash available to buy it. It is also a work in progress.
The ebay thing is a little unfair now, as like has already been said, you are not able to check the other bidders out, as to their buying history. I for one feel there is something not right about this car and the bidding, last time I looked, there was only four bidders, yet there is 70 watchers according to the seller. I know watchers do not always bid, but so much interest yet soo few bidders, maybe the price is keeping them away.
