Press clutch AND brake pedal to start engine
Has anyone else had this come up on their Volvo?
It happened for the second time to me today (first time was back in august). Parked up to nip into supermarket (after some unusually short drives for me today <10mins). Get back in the car press clutch & hit start and the dash says: “Press clutch and brake to start” So I do this, his the start button again and for a split second it sounds like it will start before all the lights go off (everything) and then come back on and it says it again. Last time I had this i continued to try press both pedals until the brake wouldnt move any more to register. This time though I took the key out, put it back in and it resorted to the usual clutch pedal only start. Just wondered if anyone else has come across this issue? Sounds electronic to me (read; expensive)

Not had this happen personally. However, my instinct would be to check the health of your battery (those little journeys all in one day could be enough to push an ailing battery over the edge), but if that's putting out a good voltage suspect a clutch or brake pedal position sensor.

Thanks you two! I,’ll look into this.
Either of you know how easy/difficult they are to replace?

Well replacing the battery is pretty simple! LOL
Might be worth seeing if you have any fault codes stored that point you in the right direction before replacing sensors. I suspect they're not difficult to replace per se, just awkward. Have a little youtube search. |

Not sure if Volvo do the same but on my last VW Passat you had to press the clutch and the brake to start the engine IF you didn’t have the seat belt on.... otherwise was just clutch.
Easy to try to eliminate it... I would but don’t have a manual any more....
