What you are calling corrugation is probably there to enhance the bonding process of the rubber to the metal. The rubber is bonded to both the outer shell and inner sleeve. Means that the rubber is subject to twisting all of the time. Smooth roads, long life, rallying, short life.
I would expect that the outer sleeves offered with the Brookhouse kit have smooth inner surfaces. Not sure if I wold bother fitting poly in these positions. Top arm cotton reels yes because they take a lot of stick and the quality of the rubber ones supplied now isn't up to that of the originals and can have a short life. |

Will give a second vote for Amazoncars springs. Much better than Lesjofors off ebay.
If polybushing do check you really want poly for everything, some are better in rubber. I used ipd for my first amo; back when it was $2:£1, and Brookhousr last time, both good. Shocks, i find bilsteins way too hard, and went for Gaz second time, KYB in the US seem popular. Big fan of uprated ARB, huge difference to roll, much improved. Didn't fit rear ARB due to oversteer warning, and also read that the mounting points need strengthning, can't remember where but it was reputable. Goodluck. |

Finished the rear end today, the front end a week ago. Went with the 30mm lower springs from VP, rear polyurethane from VP( IPD was back ordered) and IPD urethane in front. It was a lot of work but totally worth it. I cleaned and painted everything I took off so it looks so much better. I put rubber at one end of the Panhard bar on several suggestions. I made some dumb mistakes ( see the Great Suspension Overhaul thread!) but learned a lot and the car is totally transformed. All I want to do is drive the darn thing!! Thanks for all your help. Love this forum...

Bigbunt: How is the ride quality, is it stiffer or about the same?
Did it lower the car about an inch? What are you using for shocks? |

Vintage, ride quality is nice! A little stiffer but I think even stock replacements would have felt a little stiffer; my springs were played. It did lower about an inch, just enough in my opinion. Didn't want a low rider. Shocks are what was in there, KYB in front and just monroes in the back. Evidently KYBs don't like lowering but not sure if an inch is enough to bother them guess I'll find out. Bilsteins are probably the long range plan, they seem to be the go to shock, especially if you get the revalved rears. That'll be the next research project while I save nickels. Just got a new (to me) v50 and have done work to that and the Amazon so I need to recover my "hobby bank" account!
All in all it feels great but I just finished last night so not a lot of miles yet... How's the supercharger?! |
