2002 Volvo S60 T5 Knocking Noise
Amateur DIYer has a go at changing timing belt and gets it very very wrong
I got at far as trying to unlosen the bolt on the crank pulley. I did not unlosen the bolt but managed to turn the crank pulley about 1/4 to 1/2 a full turn anti-clockwise (the car is an automatic and was in P at the time). Upon realising I had bitten off more than I could chew I put everything back together. It didn't start..... I had the car transported to a back street garage - they changed the timing belt and serpentine belt. The car starts but makes a knocking noise when the car moves, no noticable sound when engine ticking over. The sound seems to be coming from the left hand side of the engine (when in the driving seat looking forward) when the car is driven. It is more noticeable upon lifting off the throttle. The engine management system has an error code for the timing not being correct. So I need to take it to Volvo to get checked out. I just wonder whether I could have caused serious damage to the engine or gear box by turning the crank pulley anti-clockwise by about a 1/4 to 1/2 turn with a breaker bar? Any help would be gratefully received. |
