What's the real difference between V90CC and V90AWD
Vaguely looking for a replacement for my beloved XC70 so that I can go into London (post 2021) without being hung, drawn and quartered?
Looking on the dreaded Selekt website there's a choice and the used prices are somewhat different. I'm not faxed about trim levels or the slight difference in ride height, but I do like an all wheel drive car - useful for towing a dinghy out of a muddy field. Oh, and I'm not impressed by the D4 engine - shades of my previous XC70 - somewhat lacking in 'urge' on the few occasions that it's needed..... Any thoughts? |

I run mine on 16" rims and Pirelli Scorpion type tyres My previous XC70 had the 181 HP engine and I found there was a lot of turbo lag. Worked a bit better with a non volvo Polestar type upgrade. The current car has 215 HP with no turbo lag (twin turbo) and as all the wellie that I need. I tried a V90 D4 and found it very soggy. Thanks for your reply ! |

Let me say that I'm the fastest one around whenever we have snow on the road. Not saying this does magic in ice because nothing does but in snowy roads I never lose control ever and I drive it as if I was driving in normal road thanks to the 4x4 from Volvo.

The V90 cross country gives you a bit more ride height than the V90 awd, and has the extra plastic protective trim. Also one to consider is the V60 AWD cross country. The June edition of the Volvo Driver magazine has a decent write up about it.

For me the V90CC is the ideal successor to the XC70 (except for the slopey tailgate, but you get used to it) - but I wouldn’t go for a D4 either.
We all have different requirements and expectations but driving several different examples convinced me that it had to be at least a D5, but preferably a T6. I’ve now had both, with Polestar, and they are quite superb! Couldn’t justify brand new so getting the right spec. proved tricky but well worth the hunt. The main downside to the D5 was that PowerPulse is not as effective at removing the lag as expected, hence getting Polestar, which certainly helped, but if you can justify the poorer economy, there’s nothing quite like a T6! Petrol cars are also holding their value much better than diesel right now, if you’re concerned about that, and there are a few decent T6s around with pretty much standard Pro spec. I did consider a couple of T5s - very little difference in economy or emissions -but not much cheaper and certainly down on power compared to T6.
