Smile Recoding your keys

Hi all . Long time Volvo Owner My first one being a green 164 many moons ago , and had many more since then , and presently a v70 xc and a xc 90 which I have had for about 10 years.

Anyway I have been wondering about the coded keys you have today. I know every body says its got to be done by the Stealers.
but looking through Vida ,its seems there may be a way to program the key yourself. Have not tried it yet (do not want screw any thing up)

Could be done maybe through DIAG/Vehicle Comms/CEM/immobilzer.Parameters . Then look in Advanced /Resetting factory settings.. Maybe just whistling in the wind,I dont know. I am always fiddling because of an inquiring mind, Cheers

Any input ?

It is done through vidal, but needs the live link to sweden . This costs the dealers £2500 a year for the volvo licence. Genuine Vida dice is £1200 if they will sell you one.

While our knock off clones are very good, volvo designed the system such that any re programing needs their live link, hence they assure that income stream.

Having lost keys on two occasions the only way I could reprogram the remaining key and car was via the dealer. It was possible I could of cloned the new key but that still left a missing key that would open and start the car.

As Paul said ^^^^ The independents have to buy the licence from Sweden so not much cheaper than the main dealers.
